Two blotters from the late 90’s

I have just got my hands on some interesting old street blotters from the late 90’s to the early 00’s, and will be uploading them over the next few weeks. I have posted two today the Red Yin Yang’s from 99’ and the Sunflower blotter from 97’.

Yin Yang’s

Appeared in Europe round the late 90’s, printed on thin ribbed paper, clean but moderately low dosed.

Sunflowers

Rare blotter from Europe, both standard 1/4” sized tabs and 1” sized tabs were in circulation, both with the same picture, sunflowers were available from the late 90’s to the early 00’s, apparently there was a club night in London called "sunflowers" at the same time which used this design as it's flyer.

Sandoz ‘Ergotamine Tartrate’

The other day I came across this small ampoule of Sandoz Ergotamine Tartrate circa 60’s or 70’s, Ergotamine Tartrate was first isolated from the ergot fungus by Arthur Stoll at Sandoz in 1918 and marketed as Gynergen in 1921, and later named Femegin, used medically for migraine treatment, it can also be used as a precursor in the Production of pure crystalline LSD.

"Sadly Ergotamine is not hallucinogenic by its self but it will cure your headache!"

ANALOGS OF LSD SOLD ON BLOTTERS!!!

AL-LAD [6-allyl-6-nor-lysergic acid diethylamide]

Analogue of LSD: It is described by Alexander Shulgin in the book TiHKAL (Tryptamines I Have Known And Loved). While AL-LAD has subtly different effects than LSD, and appears to be slightly shorter lasting, more visuals, their potencies are similar; an active dose of AL-LAD is reported to be between 80 and 160 micrograms.

LSZ [Lysergic acid 2,4-dimethylazetidide]

Analog of LSD developed by the team led by David E. Nichols at Purdue University. It was developed as a rigid analog of LSD with the diethylamide group constrained into an azetidine ring in order to map the binding site at the 5-HT2A receptor. There are three possible stereoisomers around the azetidine ring, with the (S,S)-(+) isomer being the most active, slightly more potent than LSD itself in drug discrimination tests using trained rats.

There have been several unconfirmed reports of lysergic acid 2,4-dimethylazetidide being synthesized in illicit laboratories and distributed on blotter paper or in liquid solution under names such as "diazedine" and "λ"

5-MeO-αMT Blotter!

5-MeO-αMT is a long-acting synthetic psychedelic tryptamine, it is very potent, requiring only very small dosages to produce full effects, and it is generally available in powder, tablet, or liquid form, and now it seems blotter form, because of its name, confusion with the less-potent αMT, reports of accidental overly strong doses are fairly common, it is considered less pleasant, less fun, and more dangerous than αMT.

INRODUCTION

"To fathom Hell or soar angelic, just take a pinch of psychedelic"

Humphry Osmond.

Hello folks and welcome to my new blog, which is exclusively dedicated
to the fantastic world of blotter art, this blog will be dedicated to the vintage form of the art, by vintage I mean blotter that was intended to be dipped and circulated, some of the examples you will see will have been dipped at one point, but most won't have been, these blotters will have been saved at the time of production and kept as mementos, the main characteristics of blotters that have been dipped is a brown stain left by the chemicals as it degrades, due to the contact to air and UV light.

I hope you enjoy the art work and the history behind such a fantastic subject, please feel free to comment also I am always on the lookout for new and old samples to photograph!

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO BLOTTER ART

At the time LSD [Lysergic acid diethylamide] was made illegal, mandatory sentences were based on the weight of the substances with which an offender was caught with. Therefore a person busted with one dose of acid on a sugar cube that weighed 1 gram would get the same sentence as a dealer caught with 1 gram of LSD crystal, which would represent around 10,000 doses; it wasn’t long before new lightweight mediums for distributing LSD started to appear.

The new mediums include minute pills called micro dots, which were smaller than a match head, gelatine squires also appeared dosed with LSD, called window panes, this was also the birth of the blotter, LSD was simply dropped onto sheets of un-perforated blotting paper, later sheets perforated into measured hits started to appear, then coloured paper was used and the designs began to become more elaborate, it also let people put their own brand or logo on the paper, setting one batch from another.

Over the years hundreds of blotter designs, ranging from simple rubber stamped images to complex works of art have appeared. Now the name of this form of art has become recognized as blotter art, which is now being seen for what it truly is, folk art.
